Reptster |

Tomorrow, I will be shipping a chondro using FedEx through Reptster.com. I had several questions about this method and contacted David Young of Reptster. David
and I have spoke several times on the phone, and so far I have to give him a thumbs-up. He has answered all my questions, and either answers his phone
imediately or calls back ASAP. For anyone that hasn't checked into this, Reptster offers free boxes and a 20% discount or use your own box and a 25%
discount on shipping(Priority Overnight). I will post a reply after the critter arrives in Texas.

I shipped a chondro down to texas last week using the Reptster service. I could not be happier. The day of shipping I got a call at 6:15 pm from the fedex
location where I dropped the snake off. The worker was refusing to ship the package because it contained a live reptile. This was even after he inspected the
package when I dropped it off 15 minutes earlier. With the priorty overnight cutoff being 7:00, I was really worried that I would be stuck. I promptly called
Reptster. They got on the phone with the Fedex location immediately to attempt to resolve the issue. After 20 minutes of hassle, the guy at reptster called the
higher ups at fedex and found a location close to me that said they would ship the snake. I could not be happier with the service I recieved from reptster.
One of the best parts of the transaction - the overnight priority service cost me less $50. They are stand up guys and I recommend their service to anyone
considering shipping through them.

So I am curious, can individual locations decide what can be shipped and what can not even if you are a verified shipper? If you had to find a new location, it
appears that is the case. Which technically tells me that anyone that is set up as a verified shipper could be refused at any time. If anyone has an answer to
that, I would definitely love to hear it.
I see a real benefit to using FedEx at certain times, but if I get denied and have to drive back to the facility, take it some place else, etc on the whim of one of the workers, the stress of that alone would be worth just driving to the airport to use Delta. |

Mike, the sad thing is, even as a Delta certified shipper, they have refused to ship my animals before. They really don't have a clue about their own
policy. So far, Fed Ex has been a great resource for me. Delta has by far been the worst experience in my shipping history......on both the shipping and
receiving ends.

I think the problem comes in when you try to use a Fed-Ex Kinkos / Mail Boxes Etc. or other similar type of shipping location... one that just has a Fed-Ex
counter, but is not solely a Fed-Ex location. These other companies might have rules about shipping live animals that "trumps" your contract with
Fed-Ex.. these are the only types of places that I have heard of people having issues with. If you use an official Fed-Ex location, you should not have any
problems, and they should not be able to refuse your shipment.

I think Marcial hit it right on the head. I made the mistake of using a Fedex Kinkos. The explanation I got from Reptster was that even though Fedex Kinkos can
ship reptiles, they do have the right of refusal. It just angered me that the guy inspected the package, said it was okay, and then decided to change his mind
later. I was just lucky that reptster had such great customer service and found me another location. Dan

Thanks everyone, that helps a ton.
Brandon, Ive had the same experience with DHL, I am sure its just our local facilities (and Atlanta for Delta) because we hear so much about others having great experiences with the same ones we fear to use.

FedEx/Kinkos | ||

After reading Dan's reply to my thread last night, I decided to call the FedEx/Kinko's store before I went there. Sure enough, "we don't
accept reptiles" is what I was told. They were kind enough to tell me where the FedEx hub is in my area.

I had the same experience tonight - this is the first time I have used Reptster or FedEx. David over at Reptster has been a great help. But, the guys at the
local FedEx Kinkos said "no live animals" when I went to drop off my package. I then had to make the 30 minute hike over the the central hub
location. The guy there wasn't too bright either - when I first showed up with the package he asked his colleague if they took live animals. One lady said
"no", but another guy said "sometimes". I told them that I just got off the phone with their corporate office and they most certainly did
take reptiles. But the knucklehead behind the counter kept asking the question, even after I told him so and one of his colleagues said yes, right up to the
point when I was leaving.
I have to say that the Reptster service has been great so far and way less expensive than Delta. I hope the kinks get worked out and this becomes a mainstream service for all of us. It would be real nice for shipping costs not to be such an issue when purchasing an animal. Andrew |

I guess I should have chimed in earlier. I recently got certified through FedEx, not Repster, and when I droped my test package off at Kinkos, they had a fit.
They said I also needed to take it to a hub for future shipping. This was after I opened the box to show nothing was inside and they then shipped the test
package.
I could have saved you guys the trouble. This thing with Kinkos happened weeks ago with me. Sorry :-( |

Well, having received two shipments using FedEx / Reptster and having sent one out using Reptster (all within the past week), I would give the service a
"thumbs up".
Getting used to FedEx for me is taking a little time, especially with their rules around live animals, but the Reptster service in terms of shipping set-up, cost, and ease of use, was really great. I am still waiting on boxes, but David assured me they were on the way as he was having trouble with his outsourced box shipper. This service could really help us all our in terms of having shipping costs and difficulty in getting certified become a non-issue. The price of chondros can be better managed with an inexpensive shipping method such as this. I would encourage anyone who hasn't tried this, to give it a shot. Andrew |

any updates on this???
I too checked the local DC area Fedex/Kinko's and got the 'HELL NO' response for dropoffs. Though, repster cust service suggested using the courier pickup for an extra $4 to avoid the hassle. |

Joe, you will need to either order the courier service, or simply take the package to your local FedEx hub. Mine was a little farther away, but still, all in
all, much better and much cheaper than Delta Dash.

I used them the other day and everything went fine as far as delivery... I did have aproblem with processing my shipment too early and ended up being billed
twice, and I'm working on getting one refunded. I like to go to the actual Fed Ex facility because they have later drop off times and I like the animal to
be in the box for as few hours as possible... I also don't have to worry about them not accepting live animals.

What have you folks been paying for shipping via reptser? I shipped via fedex the other day. Dropped off to fed/kink as ususal, no prob, but i don't put
"live reptile" on the box. Shipping was 59 bucks!!!

My account executive told me that all I needed was proof of certification for live reptile shipment to ensure that any FedEx/Kinko's branch location would
accept my packages. Personally, I prefer using the hub because I can limit the amount of time that an animal is in transit. That said, you should not hesitate
to mark your packages "live reptile". I have even found that when I draw attention to what I am shipping, the handlers set the package aside and
alert the drivers to take extra care in where they place the package.
I paid $50 to send an approximately 900g animal from Chicago to Maryland a month or so ago. |

Damon, I sent a package from Indiana to Texas for $42 this week.....and the box was a little larger than I would have normally used. It was delivered before 9
am.

Yup, similar to Brandon - I shipped a small box from Texas to Florida this past week for $45. Cheapest I ever sent anything and I credit the Reptster discount
for that.
