Last Thursday my wife and I were out running errands and got back home about 6:30 in the evening. Upon returning home we went into the den to check on all of the animals and do some cage cleaning and some feeding and I noticed that Meadow, my female Sorong had left me a little present on the bottom of her new cage so I go in to clean it and I move the plant that I have in the cage and to my utter horror I see this.

So I immediately tell my wife that she has prolapsed and she goes to clean a critter keeper so we can put her in it to make an emergency trip to the vet. I have my son get some paper towels and spray them down so I can keep the prolapse moist and not have it dry out. She did not want to come off of her perch so we lined the plastic bag with wet paper towels and wrapped her up in the plastic bag inside the critter keeper and headed off to the only emergency vet in town that was still open at 7:00 in the evening. We get to the vet and get her checked in and they take her back to see the doc while we wait in the waiting room. About 30 minutes later they take us into an exam room and we wait in there for another 15 minutes or so. Finally two docs come in and tell us that she is o.k. The female doc is the more experienced with reptiles and the male doc is just shadowing her because he deals with large animals and is checking out the facilities to see if he is going to join the practice. Anyway, the male doc is the one that got the rest of the poo out of the prolapse and put some KY jelly on the prolapse and said that it immediately went right back in.
Then the female tells me that she is severly underweight and very dehydrated so I need to powerfeed her and soak her at least once a day. I ask her how much she weighs and she tells me that she is 800 grams and that she should be twice that. I then tell her that she laid 18 eggs (which all collapsed and were infertile) on May 11th and that she just started eating again at the end of May. She still says that I should feed her in a couple of days and continue to feed her every 5 days or so and that she needs to eat prey that is bigger than what I feed her currently. I currently feed her a small rat every 10 to 14 days and have for about the last 3 years. She then says that they need to give her some fluids and we can take her home in about an hour or so. I thank them for saving my snake and we go to get something to drink and get out of the vet office so I can cool down cuz I really wanted to go off on the female vet because she obviously doesn't know very much about green tree pythons let alone that you should not powerfeed a snake that just got done basically blowing her ass out of her cloaca. The bill only came to $163 which my wife and I could not believe, we were expecting at least 3 or 4 hundred bucks.
So far Meadow is doing fine. I am soaking her in some warm water every day and she has not had any problem with that. I left her in the critter keeper for the first two days and then put her back in her new home and she is acting normal and just hanging out. I am still kind of worried about feeding her but I think that I might try and feed her a hopper rat this Thursday or Friday just to see if she is at all interested in food and that way it will be a little easier for her when it comes to her next bowel movement. Any thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appreciated and thanks for reading my story and rant.
