Hey Jason,
I have one pair that I can feed together, as the male has less than zero interest in food. I will only offer the female food if he is on the other side of the enclosure, as I don't want him on top of her, he moves, and her feeding response kicks in and she nails him. With all other pairs, even though the males are typically off food, there have been times that they wanted food, and when you have two snakes going for the same prey item, it isn't pretty. My feeling is better to be safe than sorry, and remove one of them when it is feeding time. Kim "Wow, that is a hot snake, I would definitely hit that."

If the male is off feed and shows no interest on the meal you should be able to feed the female without a problem ( like Kim already mentioned ). I also have a
friend that uses a plastic cover to divide the cage when feeding breeding pairs. My advice to you is that if you never done this before your best bet is
provably to remove the male. Knowing your animals also has a lot to do with it. Good luck!

I've tried both and find that removing the male is a lot less nerve wracking. I also find some benefit in re-introducing the male after feedings sometimes
spurs them into more breeding if they have begun to slow down.

i tend to agree with andrew on this one. i have done both in the past, but is less nerve wrackign when you separate them.

I agree, remove the male. Also, don't put the male back in the cage immediately after feeding the female!!! Buddy B |
