I'd like to think so, but you're already taken Gary.
So get back to your day job.

I will bite Aaron. Above is at least one female, the "original female" posed by the April issue of this publication. She is every bit 7 years of
age, has produced hatchlings, and is still yellow. As stated many times she changes colors but for the most part she stays bright canary yellow with a few
scattered green and white scales. I have had several animals turn green and stay green, I have several that change from dirty bird to yellow, so I think it is
safe to say not all turn green, and some change colors and some turn green and stay green.
Here is a recent pair a female that stays green and a male in between yellow and green and has been this way for over a year now. Hopefully I will have eggs soon from this pair. I think the positive side of this is that these are a very beautiful locality that will add lots to the current chondro community such as my favorite male right now.
My Biak x Canary named "Binary" so stupid (the name) it makes me laugh out loud! Canaries will prove to add great variations, new genetics, and more chondros for all of us to marvel at. Marc

Finally, a bit of a conversation. Phew!
Marc, great post. The current magazine edition is a great way to document timeline. Is 7 years old the oldest one we know of? I've had 100% of mine turn green (or a nice necrotic black color)... and a number of people I've talked to have stated that they all turn green. I think the genetics here are interesting, and still somewhat of a mystery -- Canaries have been kinda shunned. Probably because they are so "new" to the trade, but when you look at the outcrossing and whats going to happen, I think that's where it's going to get interesting. WHen you throw one with a biak (known slow changer) and a canary (known slow changer or potentially non-changer), what do you get with a cross like that in 3 years, 5 years, 7 years, 10 years? Obviously, we can't tell, but with the potential for strangeness, it just seems like there's still a hush hush underground with these. But kudos on the documentation with the magazine. I wonder how many "Parent Pics" of canaries that have been sold show them before the change, but purport them to be still yellow. That's the big question I guess. And for the record, "Binary"? BEST. NAME. EVER!

Even when they turn green from what i've seen(which hasnt been much) they still retain a yellow undertone that is very distinct of a canary.
Either way they are beautiful animals but I still hope that they dont all turn green. |

Marc, good for you!! I very happy that female is doing great and looking good. Maybe when you have a chance out of your crazy schedule, you can email me some
photos of offspring, would love to see how they look.
That biak cross is killer looking and perfect name!! Good work buddy.. B |

I sincerely hate that this does seem to be true...especially at my level...no amout of "pedigree" choices, planned pairings etc. would get me close
to a long term non-changing specimen unless it was by accident..... maybe one day.........interesting topic though and I look forward to more.......

Beau, Here is a photo of one of the 2006 hatchlings. Glad to hear all is well. Lexi, I am a little confused by your post...do you mean you would not want to purchase a chondro hatchling that would retain its hatchling color into adulthood? Sorry if I read it wrong, I am pretty tired right now. Marc |
