Due to a problem with a batch of faulty heaters (six failed in one month) two young GTPs were housed together for the past two weeks.

They both sloughed whilst i was away from home on business and one of the girls produced some great sperm plugs (I have checked on returning home).

The problem is that they are now coupled and looking very happy/horny.

This is an accidental mating that shouldn't have happened but how do I treat it now????

Help/advice/criticism all taken on board

Other than the morning after pill its too late to do anything about it now so prepare for the eggs. :wave If it is a papered animal you cant really pair her with anyother male and know for sure who the sire is. Congrads! :woot

How about pics of sire and dam?

I'd leave them to their vices. Not much you can do if they already got busy, other than wait and prep the incubator. How old are they? While I wouldn't purposefully pair young snakes, I do believe that they'll only reproduce if they are ready.

I agree, if they're ready, then they're doing what they know to do.....make babies. This actually could turn into a nice thread, providing lots of viable data about the age at which younger chondros can reproduce and what the fertility rate is at that age. I'm interested to see the outcome.

If you think the female is of sppropriate size and would like to try and breed her this year, I'd leave them together. If you think she may be a little too small, I'd separate them. Although it only takes one, I'd wager that after a mistake like that, she probably won't end up gravid. If these guys are that easy to breed then I'm doing something terribly wrong.

"One of the girl produced sperm plugs" ???? Not sure if you meant the male produced sperm plugs. Perhaps you were thrown off and thought the sperm plugs were from the female's shed and lends evidence to the fact that the male loaded her up with sperm. I do not believe that is how things progress and in fact the shed containing the sperm plugs would have been the male's shed.

I had thought they were both Females and was a little surprised to see sperm plugs from a "female"...I'll need to rename her now.

They are both 2 year old and well under the accepted normal for attempting a breeding so to say I was shocked is an understatement.

I'm hoping that the newly discovered/identified female is not going to produce but the male is certainly very keen.

I'll take some piccies and post them sunday
