"doing what Mike and Cathy are about to do is not even comparable in any shape or form IMO... trust me!!! "
Okay let me get this straight..... because the chondros are born in YOUR facility that are now grown adults and are subsequently producing offspring... this is "incomparable" to buying babies that are 2-3 months old and doing the exact same thing??? Sorry, but I call that a technicality... nothing more... no doubt really really neat that people have produced 2nd generation in their facilities... but that's it..... neat. Nothing that warrants a big long-winded list of people that have achieved this so-called accomplishment.... and by no means am I taking away from other's breeding successes.... Rob |

Rob, I think you are missnig the point here. As I see it this is more a recognition of the time and dedication to a hobby for such a long period of time. I
have purchased babies (my first in 2003) and raised them up to breed. My first offspring that I produced will be ready to breed next year, 2010, and these were
not from stock that I raised up. My frist offspring from stock that I purchased as neos won't be ready to breed until 2011. That's a far cry from
buying neos and breeding them 2-4 years later.
Whether you call it an accomplishment or a milestone, either way it instills a sense of pride, and brings the breeder into yet a smaller circle of peers who have done the same thing. Congrats to Cathy and everyone else who has joined this club. I'll see you all there next year! Ben Evans

Ben,
I'm not missing any points.... I just don't think a big deal has to be made based on where our founding stock came from that's all.... I'll sell animals to you and you to me and 5-6 years we'll breed them... and produce offspring... whoopty frickin doo.... Rob |

wow... it's like blowing out the candles on someone else's birthday cake.
Congrats Cathy. I can't wait for the day to come when I breed Citrus, my first chondro or any of my chondros for that matter. Next step after that would be to breed what I have already bred.. good stuff. -JG |

Rob McRobbie wrote:Awesome, way to be a downer when the whole group was just starting to get along again. How does it go... "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." And Imo, it is an amazing accomplishment and I agree with the majority wholeheartedly. Big congrats Cathy (and Lesser Rico)! I think if you don't understand the excitement of this accomplishment, you obviously haven't been keeping chondros and trying to breed them very long. BF VTP sucks hemipenes! |

Sorry guys..... I realize how I could have hurt some feelings.... I guess it is different because when I am buying hatchlings to raise up, others have already
bred their animals and are one step ahead shooting for F2s.... my bad... I'll shut up now....

It's all good, Rob.
I just barely started 3-4 months ago lol. Breeding is just another goal to aim for in the future. -JG |

It truly is one of the more exciting aspects of the hobby..Its fun to think that the animal that just gave you babies not that long ego you were holding in
your hand as an egg and candling..
The downside is that you lose all track of time..become a great great great grandparent while your way to damn young..get grumpy and sit out on your front porch yelling at the neighbor kids to get off the lawn!!! I mean I just cut the damn grass.. Its part of the good stuff..you'll love it! Give you that feeling that they are really your own. |

no need to shut up Rob,
I understand where you coming from, we all know where you coming from. I know alot of people doing this who chose to get neos when they first started rather than to just buy 2 adults and breed in the first yr. SOme wanted the full expierience ( I know I did ) |

on a side note...
for the past 10 yrs I've wanted and been dying for a pied ball ..... but I refuse to buy one, always wanted to produce my own from hets. But..... I'm a little leary of "hets" on KINGSNAKE. one day I will still have my pied!! and I cant wait till the day I cut open that egg and see the lovely white |

Cathy, it's funny you brought this topic up right now. I got a message from a friend nearby who purchased a female from my 1st clutch in '05. He had
just put her together with one of his males and they hooked up quickly. This will be his first clutch from a female that came from my first clutch. Pretty
cool! I hope to be a grand-snake mom early next year. It does really make you realize how quickly time flies. I plan on pairing my two females from that
clutch here soon.
Good luck with yours!

One more thought here, not only are you able to see animals you hatched reproduce but it also marks the 2nd step in your jorney as a breeder.
If you are a designer type breeder, or locality breeder hatching the second round of kids from a particular blood line means a ton. |

I think its an amazing accomplishment. While i havent done this with any snakes ive produced, i will be breeding a leopard gecko female in the upcoming season
that i produced this year. Its a great feeling creating your own second generation.
