I was having a real nice conversation with a friend recently where we discussed one of my hopeful breedings for the year. I'm pretty excited because my girl "Splash" that I produced and held back in my first '05 clutch is being cycled and I hope to pair her up with my HY boy Ouch that I also produced. It will be my first CM x CM breeding and for me this one will be special.... expect all yellow neos, but would be willing to be that they'll be great eaters (both parents were) from very diverse genetics but expect some nice possibility of high yellows:)

Got sentimental and started wondering how many people have worked with chondros long enough and been lucky enough to produce babies from snakes they also produced. I have a special respect for those that I know that have accomplished this feat. I know of a few, but would love if others would pitch in with others that I might have missed or not know of.

In no particular order

Eugene Bessette, Trooper Walsh, Greg Maxwell, Rico Walder, Greg Stephens, Damon Salceies, Rob Worrell, Tim Morris...... think that Marcial Mendez, the Stewart brothers and Eddie Aste join this list also, but not sure. I know I must be missing several and would love to add to the list:)

When I look back, I can barely believe I've been working with these snakes for right at 7 years now........ more often than not I still feel like a newb myselff and am a hopeless romantic when it comes to these guys .

I can imagine this is a nice thing too experience when you are keeping and breeding chondros for so many years.
Not many people can accomplish this to breed there own CB females they have raised again!
This only tells a small part on how good you are at husbandry of these species and also on keeping them very well before and after breeding for so many years.

You all also brought a lot of knowledge and good animals to the community. Some of you I know personally some I don't but I hope you all keep up what your doing untill.

I'm actually quite excited myself Cathy this will be the first yr I try and breed my first chondro. She's an 05 virgin. So i understand where you coming from

Producing chondro grand-kids (as we call it around here) is a very special thing!!

I know my brother has but I am still personally going for my very 1st chondro clutch ever, again this year!

Best of luck Cathy!! That is a very exclusive "short list" for chondro accomplishments!

Cathy thats an awesome pair should get some really nice high yellows with a bright blue stripe. Is Ouch the same size as Eureka? What other parings are you doing for this season.

I have a female I produced in 95 who is actually a grandmother and lives on to see her grand children grow! There are several others but she is special because she is the oldest snake in my collection and is solid as a rock.

Is he a wamena or a blue line kid? I have seen 2 or 3 wamenas that look simillar.

Most of my breeding adults are animals I produced.

Treat everyone you meet with dignity and respect....but have a plan to kill them just in case

I think it is kinda cool when we hold back animals that eventually breed for us.... But is it really a great accomplishment??? I mean, my group of breeders came to me when they were a few months old and I raised them up slowly until they were of size... And I think most people here have come to realize that CBB chondros make better breeders.... and most have CBB animals in their collections producing offspring... so yes it is nice to build our own groups from our stock but I don't really see it as being any different from buying babies from someone else and growing them up in our facilities.... Just my 2 cents..

I think its more of a pride thing or a sense of nostalgia (sp?) in seeing your own animals grow up to produce.

I was proud of my first chondro breeding since I bred them up as lil ones, but I'm totally stoked to have my baby girl from 05 ready to breed this yr

it's more of a personal accomplishment... It feels good to breed from your own personal breedings..
It's nothing about the health of the snake or anything of that sort. just a good feeling inside..

*that's too mushy.. sooo..... I love beer, women, trucks, and fighting.

I hope to join that group in a year or two. I also raised many from juvies to adults and then bred them, but I would love to be able to breed back two that I actually produced! I think it says something for how long you have worked with these snakes successfully, because to get a pairing from animals you have bred yourself, that shows that you have put some good time into working with them. I think most of us that have bred have raised the parents from babies, but to be able to say that the parents were produced by you says something in my book!

although that is a great accomplishment also, doing what Mike and Cathy are about to do is not even comparable in any shape or form IMO... trust me!!!

Kieth, smacking myself upside the head, missed you and I also think that Brandon has gone full circle too. Christian, looks like you've got some catching up to do, awesome to have Shane too. I knew Marc has been around for awhile, didn't know it was THAT long:) Pretty cool stuff, I know there's got to be more out there. How about the Europeans?

Rob, I agree that raising any neos up to breeding age and getting babies is a super accomplishment and I would not want to diminish that at all! I've got a few pairings going and even though the potential is incredible in a couple of them, my fingers are mostly crossed for this one. Seriously, this could be the start of my own line! Super pastels/tri colors is what I want:)

Nick, last time I saw Eureka he was about the same size as his brother Ouch. Ouch was very eager after meeting Splash yesterday and quite protective of his space. Can barely believe these boys are 3 already!!

I just grabbed a couple of quick pics, Ouch did NOT like me anywhere near the cage with him in it!! This is the first time he's been in a glass fronted enclosure too so I'm trying to not disturb him too much. He was hooked up most of the night, and he got real pissy and started moving the second he saw me coming.

Splash is out of a cbb Jayapura male and Aquaman/Blue Diamond female. Ouch is out of Daddypants/TMBlue female by Tart/Granite male.
