Prolapse/Philly area vets |

To my horror, I discovered late last night that my adult female GTP has a prolapse. It is about the size of a large grape. I took some photos but I am having
trouble posting them. I have been applying sugar paste to the prolapse every few hours as has been suggested in previous threads. I am having trouble finding a
vet in the area that deals with reptiles. my next step is to contact the Philadelphia Herpetological Society to ask about local vets, but i was hoping someone
on here might have some suggestions. Thanks in advance for all your help

How big is your female? A grape sized prolapse, isn't that bad and may be easily pushed back in.

Your best bet for an exotics vet in the area is the university of pennsylvania school of veterinary medicine. They have a exotics service that sees reptiles
and other exotic pets.

She is about 3.75in in diameter at her thickest, and over 5ft long. I would try to push it back in but I finally spoke to a local vet who sees reptiles, so i
have an appt. Thanks for the suggestions, I will let you know how it goes at the Vet.

On Tuesday I was finally able to see the vet, who had to remove a small amount of necrotic tissue, re-insert the prolapse and stitched her up. He also prescribed topical and oral antibiotics. I went home and removed the perches before returning her to the enclosure. When I checked the following morning to apply the solution to my dismay i found the stitch broken, and about a third of the prolapse was back out. I returned to the vet where he again re-inserted the prolapse, and stitched it up, a little tighter and stronger than the first time. Since then it seems to be going ok, i have been able to administer both the topical and oral meds with out too much trouble, although she really doesnt like the syringe being shoved in her mouth. I really hope the meds are working. I will post updates. |
