incubator question/help for the poor |
Lead | |
|
Ok I am sure this question has been asked a gazillion times but cant seem to find the right answers. Economic times have hit and are still hitting pretty hard
on me and my partner. One of my females might be ovulating soon and as a precaution I want to get info on an economical incubator than rather her incubate them
maternally. for example are any of the hova bator series incubators any good? and if they are which model would be sufficient. I need something that is below
the 150 range. or is having one of these sub par incubators worse than having maternal incubation? remember this is only for one clutch and will not be used
for further clutches but just need something cheap that would be dependable for now.
thanks for the input.

I'll respond to this just because i feel it's coming.
You can look on craigslist for a small cooler (you dont have to use the large one here) to cut your price, pretty much in half. You can also sub out waterbottles for the steel pans. Whats gonna cost you the most is your helix system. Lets see.. Cooler = 60 bucks (if found) Water bottles = Free (if you dig in the recycling) PVC Pipe and egg grate = 15 bucks (hope depot) Use tupperware instead of the plastic egg box = Free (if you have one in your kitchen) Helix = 100 bucks (if found used.) g'luck! PS. I know Mr. Sadovnik hatched a (killer) chondro in a cooler with a light bulb...... soo, yeah, this aint rocket science |

as an alternative , you could go maternal, but I strongly urge that you get a proportional thermostat for moms nest box. Helix or Herpstat are going to be the biggest cost in your incubator, so you don't save that much money with maternal anyway. Good luck, some old incubator threads below...
