Oceana finally shed and she's looking beautiful. What a mellow girl she is. Just sits there while you do your thing. Got a few nice pictures of her
before weighing her (2268 grams) and she's really awesome. Hope you like them.

Excuse my ignorance, but why is it called a cobra?

They hood like a Cobra, albeit very small hood compared to the real thing. Basically they flatten the ribs in the neck area. This girl only hooded when she was
in blue. Now she just hangs out and rests her head on your arm. The male will hood, but he's in blue also. I measured her today and she's at 80".
She's really a lovely animal and primitive looking as hell.

Pardon my ignorance and laziness as well, but those shots are great and you have gained my interest.
Aren't those things rear fanged? What are their temperaments usually like? How weak is their venom? I've heard of 'em, but never seen 'em in the classifieds or at shows (I only browse the python/boa classifieds though so go figure). Their head reminds of a Naja's too, which are in top five for neatest looking (to me). I see you also have an eyelash viper I would like to own one of those one day....

These are indeed rear fanged colubrids. There is argument about how toxic the venom is. Some listings show it on a par with the timber rattler. However, since
they are rear fanged, they need to chew in order to envenomate you. I've read of one envenomation and it resulted in muscle damage. The guy did not get
medical attention though. These animals can range from aggressive to very passive. The female I have is very calm and nice to work with. The male is a little
more skittish although he's not tried to bite, he will shoot out of the enclosure if he thinks you have food. He's in blue though so that might be a
reason for his jumpiness right now. The female was more skittish when she was in blue. She hissed and hooded. Now that she has shed though, she doesn't do
either. She just hung out with her head resting on my hand. I'm using a hook to work with the male and at feeding time, I definitely use hook or tongs to
move them into and out of the tub. If they were going to chew, it would most likely be during that time.
