After my last post i got all fired up and me and my fiance decided to head back out to the glades. We found alot of snakes including two more burms! The first
one was a nice size and was not easy to catch, my fiance would not get out of the car to take pics untill i cought it, LOL, so that's why the pics have a
dash board of a car in them.We also found (as far as i know) the first recorded hatchling baby burm in the road. Also a nice pigmy rattel snake. Enjoy

Hey Kevin,
A few years ago, I got involved with some croc work down in the glades. One night I was driving back to my hotel and I found a baby burm in the road. Couldn't have been more than a couple of weeks old. I didn't realize it at the time but they had been established there for quite a while. It got back to the rangers that I found the animal. I turned it over to them and it was euthanized. Is this still the policy? Sounds like it's not working very well if you found two in one night. Just curious, what did you do with yours? When I found mine I was excited at first but then couldn't stop thinking about what a population of burmese pythons would do to the native birds and mammals there. I love this hobby and these animals but I'm a little ashamed that these snakes have been carelessly released like this. There's a book about the introduced herps of Florida. It's published by Kreiger. I've always wanted to pick it up.

Those pictures are so cool. On the other hand, the Everglades could wind up being a mini Jurassic Park in 20 years.
A paved road with a yellow line in the Everglades. Obviously you didn't have to go too deep into the boonies of the Glades to make those finds. Unbelievable stuff. That wasn't Rt 41 was it? The idea of catching wild Burmese Pythons while cruising the Tamiami Trail is amazing. Vinny |

Mike, Thanks for the info on the neo. I dont know what they do with them anymore but they are out of controll! I have been told many time to leave them be do
to tracking them with transmitters. Part of me wants to kill them but i just have a hard time doing it. IN the last year or so i have not seen near as many
mammals down in the glades but i have seen alot of birds.
Vinny, I have only seen two burms in tamiami trail, that was flimingo road. Andrew your garter was lame. Just kidding!!!!!!! keep posting i love looking at what people are finding. thanks kevin |

Hey Kevin, what a treat it was to view your S. Florida Hunting!! Great to hear info. on the exotic introduction first hand, you look like a stud out there!
(ha). I too have mixed reactions like others, on how to not only deal with these WCs, but the whole misfortunate introduction of the species and public
perception. . Not the best situation for what seems like ever increasing legislative acitivity with the "big five" and herpetculture as a whole. Oh,
But ...........we all know Black necked Garters are a lot cooler to catc.......never mind!
Great post! Ken Diehl San Antonio

Kevin,
Where exactly were you hunting at. I live down here in South Fla and would be interested. I hadn't really heard of any hatchlings being found, but I guess it was inevitable. Bob |
