I was curious how those that ship using Fed Ex label their boxes. Do you label them, "Live Harmless Reptile"; "Live Reptile",
"Venomous Dragon".....etc.,....and if you might be kind enough to post pics of your shipping boxes as they are when you bring them into Fed Ex for
shipping. Thanks! Richy

Mine are labeled "Live Harmless Reptiles" and "Perishable, Keep Warm." The quantity and spp. name is supposed to be on the box lid as well.

Rich, check out Reptster.com. They are offering a bypass to getting the original Fed Ex certification, and they are providing a reptile shipping service in
conjunction with Fed Ex. Not only is it helping the reptile industry, but they are also providing huge discounts for using the service and will send you
shipping boxes for FREE. All you have to do is sign up online and watch a video on how to pack a shipment, which we all know how to do by now......at least I
hope.
Jason, I think the "Live Harmless Reptiles" label is good, but I would drop the "Keep Warm" part. The best label for that would be "Keep from Extreme Temperatures" and give a safe range of temps(68-80?). Some people think reptiles love HOT temps, and we all know that is not a good thing. I write "Live Harmless Reptiles" on the box, as well as the scientific name and quantities of what is in the box (no common names, as I don't
want people seeing the word "python" and freaking out). The boxes are printed with the words "Perishable" on all sides, and I hand write
"keep out of direct sunlight".

I just print up a label that says "perishable" and "this end up". I don't remember anything in the contract about printing the names
and numbers of animals included (could be wrong though). I don't give any indication that there are animals in the box.

I think putting the names of the animals on the box may be required for interstate transport . . . ?

I do what Marcial does, but sometimes I've kept the "live harmless reptile" off because it seems that some people, out of vindictive nature, see
it as an invitation to treat the box like crap if they know something alive is inside.

Thanks everyone who posted with their information. I appreciate it.
Brandon--I am well aware that Reptster offers a Fed Ex program for shipping through membership in Reptster. However, I emailed them several times regarding a few questions I had in becoming a member and have yet to hear anything from them...NOTHING. If they don't care to reply to email questions regarding their program..personally, I don't want anything to do with them. To me, it shows me alot about what they are and how important customers are to them. Richy |

Labeling the box is not a requirement of Fed-Ex, but it is a requirement of the Lacy Act. I'm actually surprised that Fed-Ex does not require compliance
with the Lacy Act.

I lable mine Live harmless reptile and put the latin and common name on there. If there's a problem, I want them to know it's a live animal that
can't hang around forever in the back of a truck, and I also don't want anyone to claim that they didn't know what I was shipping. Up and up. I
also lable to keep from cold and heat.

I knew this day would come, and I am so excited to say it!
Marcial Mendez is WRONG!!! Damn that feels good. Everyone......say it with me; "Marcial you are wrong"! OK...deep breath Gary.... It states clearly on FedEx's "Live Harmless Reptile Packaging Guidelines" that the words "LIVE HARMLESS REPTILES" must appear on two sides of the shipping box. This is the same document one must reference when shipping their "test package" to FedEx, in order to become a registered FedEx reptile shipper. My work is done here ....... G-Diddy |

Rooster, I think you have been inhaling too many fumes while applying those stickeebuns in your sweatshop....
I was referring to Mike's comment and the fact that Fed-ex does not require that the species name and quantities be on the box like the Lacy Act does. Lay off the glue and keep tryin', guy!

Longstoryshort - appologies if it is OT, but I thought it was fitting...
Two weeks ago I sent out a package via UPS. I have sent every package by UPS for the last 3 seasons. Everyone labelled exactly the same way: Live harmless reptiles, avoid temp. extremes, scientific names. Never had a big problem. However this one got pulled by some anal retentive kid at the hub. Now, he was VERY cool about the whole thing, but it still sucked (I had to pry myself out of my recliner and go down to the hub in the middle of the night, meanwhile I was beating Coby and company with the Rockets and McGrady had a triple double cookin'). Hence, I tried reptster last week for two rather expensive shipments. Worked flawlessly in both cases. I had a few questions, gave them a call, and they were very helpful. Just my experience, I will continue to use them until they give me a reason not too...easier than getting an account w/ fed ex. They mentioned that they will be offering UPS service (including snakes) in the near future as well. |

Gary--
The word is now out--remember, one can not determine toxicity by the quality of the buzz (alone). Must be one helluva sweatshop! Richy |
