OT - Neat find in mulch compost pile |

Brandon and I received a call from his brother on July 3rd about a kingsnake eating some eggs. Two Broadhead Skinks were trying to defend the nest and ran the
kingsnake off. Brandon's brother was moving the mulch pile so we took the eggs home and are currently incubating them. We are hoping they hatch and that
they were not damaged when the kingsnake found their nest. Here are some pictures. The eggs are the size of jelly beans.

Male broadheads are very cool looking lizards, best of luck with the incubation. With any luck they will hatch out and thrive!!!

Awesome find Amy! That is so cool. I looked real hard in my yard this morning. Still just the rabbits and squirrels.

The really cool thing about this find was the females. My brother was there for the whole fiasco. The first nest was accidentally dug up as he was landscaping.
The first female ran from the nest to the back side of a tarp covering the mulch pile. He pulled the tarp back to find another female next to a second clutch,
with a yearling kingsnake having a snack of a couple of eggs. Apparently, the second female caught the attention of the king and lured him away from the nest.
As I was crouched down collecting the eggs, the first female ran between my feet, stopped, and looked up at me for a few seconds as if she was saying,
"what are you doing with my babies?" Very cool stuff. She was not timid or scared of me at all. If the eggs hatch, we are going to take them back so
our nieces can turn them loose.....the 3 year old LOVES SNAKES! We'll see what happens.

Yep, there's that 'Brandon luck' again.... I live like two miles away, and much like one of the previous posters- nothing but rabbits and psycho
squirrels that torment my dog. Oh well.

Yep. Broadheads are all over here. People confuse them with five-lines, but these are typical brown with the bright red heads. Babies and juvies look like
five-lines though. Don't worry guys, we have our share of psycho squirrels.....and neighbors.
