Ex-girlsfriend just got bit and attacked by my King. I fed him a "small" rat 1 1/2-2 weeks ago and she blames me for not feeding the snake enough.
What do you think is right?

Did it bite and then hang on -- more likely a feeding response (though it doesn't mean you're not feeding it enough). Did it strike and back off, even
if it did it several times -- more likely a defensive response. It's to hard to tell if it's hungry, there are too many variables.
Normally if it came out of it's cage and kept coming at her, I'd say that's almost always a feeding response. "Attacking" out of aggression is big time unlikely.

Ex-Girlfriend huh, well your snake was probably just reacting to your own subconscience desires, rewarding him with an extra rat (as your ex suggested) might
be in order afterall. lol.

What kind of king is it? This may help determine why she was bitten. I have had MANY animals of EVERY sub-species of common king. They all have their
quirks and are very predictable in their behavior and mannerisms......one reason I love my Florida kings. If is was a bite just while holding the animal,
I'll take a wild guess and say it is a Cal king......ok, not a wild guess, but an educated one by many experienced bites.lol.

Hes a Cal King and yes I did get a kick out of it. I was worried that she would over react and hurt my snake. She made me go to the groccery store and get
some chick hearts. It bit her and wrapped around her wrist. All the while shes calling me Mother this and Mother that. And its all my fault 'cause I dont
feed it enough. She got bit by my Osbourn female GTP once too while she was trying to kiss it. I tell her that they arent cats, but she doesnt listen to
crap. I had to get rid of a rattlesnake because she took out a live mouse out of a 10 gallon tank with her bare hands. She cries whenever I have feed them
live food.

Eugene, I would say your cal king was just being a cal king. At one time I kept around 40 cal kings and at least half of them were biters. How often and how
much do you feed it? I would think that 2-3 mice per week would be plenty for an adult.
I agree with tazman, not smart to get into a rattler's cage with no tools. Glad the snakes are ok. Brandon Osborne |

Ive been feeding the King a rat larger than an adult mouse ever two weeks. Maybe I am under feeding him (?).
I posted about the Rattlesnake incident here and got yelled at that I should have had a lock on the cage which is true. I just thought that a house with only adults wouldnt cause a problem. I was wrong. Age doesnt = smart. I support single Moms. $1 at a time! |

Well, I don't quite know what to say. I guess thank you would be the best thing. The first picture is a female that I purchased from Lloyd Lemke back in
1993. Unfortunately she passed away this year during brumation. I really miss her.
The next 3 are creations I produced over the last few years. The blue brute is a 7 year project still in the works. Of 4 clutches and over 40 eggs, I have only produced him as a one of a kind king. He is 3 years old now and still doesn't know what to do with the girls. I'm seriously about to give up on the project. lol. His parents haven't produced anything for 2 years. Oh well.....third time is a charm. Right? Thanks again for the kind words. Brandon Osborne |

I don't think your under feeding him, it just might have been one of those things, but the thing I want to know is can you send him to me, I have a couple
ex-girlfriends I'd love to introduce him to, I'll pay shipping to get him and to get him back to you, and the vet bills to make sure he doesn't
catch anything.

Love the Brooksi, all of them. Nice sulphur lav, but I know you're holding back - give 'em up man.
What are New England Axanthics, and how are they related to your blue brooks ? I want desperately to produce albino goini with that pair I bought from you, but I assume they are not easy, as you never see them for sale. Tough feeders the problem ? I can't understand why quality goini like yours aren't immensely popular with people who like colorful snakes - they are stunning. I'll probably get scolded for admitting this, but high school boys know that my high white cali king will bite every time. They dare each other to get bit. Most are too afraid too hold still long enough, but those who take the hit are awarded bravery status in the senior hall. Hey, anything that gets them interested in snakes. They are told that if they flinch, and hurt my snake, I'll hurt them alot more, so they either hold perfectly still, or back away. Surprisingly, only a few are tough enough to hold still, not the ones you would expect, either. Then, I have to run her under cold water to make her let go. They do like their foodies.

You guys would love sitting on my front porch here deep in the woods. I have two 5 foot Ga. Kings and a three footer that love to come up on the porch when I
have the sprinkler going and it's wetting the edge of the porch. It was a first for me seeing a King drink. Here's a pic of the smaller one:

That kind of stuff is always neat! I can still remember as a kid going to my grandmothers house and seeing her get upset because of the king snake that would
sit in her birdbath just before dark every night.

My cal king doesn't bite, but that's about the only thing it doesn't do. Pain in the butt snakes, but my hubby wanted one...so he got one. I feed
less frequently than you do and I don't get bitten, so I think it's just the cal king thing....

Brandon, Is a New England Axanthics a King? And do they really live in New England or is that were they were bred. I am from there and never new that we had
knigs. Maybe we dont. This has got to sound ignorant, but I am ignorant about this subject. And what is burmation?
