Im just wondering which companys will ship snakes. I know fedex will but they require a waiver that resticts shipping to business to business only. Im here in
colorado and I dont know of any others that would do it. Any suggestions will be helpful. thanks

Hi topknot - first off, this is not an OT thread - it is a very valid question that many people ask.
The three "major" carriers that most folks use are: - FedEx: requires an account and shippers verification - Delta Airlines: Through Delta Dash - also requires an account and shippers verification (this is the carrier that I use) - UPS: some controversy with this one as they do not formally "allow" snakes to be shipped, but many people use them anyway and simply not declare what is in the box. The big downside here is if there is a DOA. The prices have gone up on all the carriers to such an extent due to rising fuel costs that shipping a live snake is an expensive ordeal. My last shipment through Delta cost over $105 for a neonate in a 3 lb box. So, with FedEx or Delta, you will have to go through a shippers verification process. With Delta, they actually came to my house to make sure I wasn't running some illegal operation, but the rest of the process was painless. Good luck. Andrew |

I just went throught the verification process with fedEx and it was easy. After getting told by DHL that they don't ship reptiles any more...I decided to
go with a more legitimate method. I like FedEx but it's gotten to the point that they aren't much cheaper than Delta...but cheaper nontheless. I can
provide more info and contacts on FedEx if desired.

FedEx will let you ship person to person if you set up an account and go through the verfication process which includes approval of a test box and signing a
legal waiver. I shipped a 800+ gram animal from a FedEx hub in Illinois to a home address in Maryland with a 10:30AM guaranteed delivery for $50.00 just a few
weeks ago. You can set up an account over the phone with an Account Representative in less than 15 minutes. You will, however, need to contact your Account
Executive to start the verification process. I think it only took me a few weeks to complete the entire thing. Like most carriers they do not ensure
"perishable" items. Hope that helps.

If you want to drive down to Denver, I can ship the animal for you.

I have shipped all my animals on Delta Dash. I have never been verified nor do I have an account there. Never had a problem either. I do understand that their
price has gone up, but I'm sure they all have with the recent gas prices. Fed Ex cost about half as much, but they ship overnight. The good part about
Delta Dash, is that you drop the snake off in the morning, and a few hours later, it is in the hands of the buyer. The bad part is you have to go to the
airport as does the buyer.
Good luck. It can be a little overwhelming and you will get a different answer from each person that you talk to from all companies. Be persistent. Bob |

I learned of a new way to ship via FedEx this weekend at the show..... and to get a 25% discount off of their normal rates.
Reptster has signed a deal with FedEx and will even provide free insulated shipping boxes, but you must use the Reptster portal to do this. You can ship to and from any location. UPS is apparently in the process of signing a similar contract with Reptster which will INCLUDE SNAKES!! You will soon be able to go to the site and compare rates between the two companys and ship using either one. It is fairly new but looks very interesting so far. I think this is a great idea for the many people that only ship a couple packages a year too. http://www.reptster.com/connections/fedex/fedex_terms.php |

Cathy,
Glad you mentioned that. I had heard about that a few weeks ago and forgot about it. Thanks for the heads up. Bob |

I'll have to check that out. I am certified to ship thru Fed Ex and usually if I'm shipping to a home, I create a business name for it if they
don't have one. The majority of snakes I ship are to breeders though so although it's their residence, it's also their business....just as mine is.
If it does happen to be someone who's not a breeder, but just a private collector, I'll create a business name for them. Never been a problem. Getting
lower rates off the shipping ( I only get 10% discount as a certified user) is a real plus. I'll have to check it out when I get a chance.
