Maybe you remember my last blog about IBD by Chondros?? Today i get very bad news from my Vet!!! Both snakes are IBD positive!!!!   
The Virus was in the blood and in the throat-smear. The snakes go too an University for search!! 
Now my Vet. must test all my Chondros and I hope that they will be stay alive!! Cross your fingers for me!!!! By Chris |

Wow. Any idea where it came from. Where did you get the animals? What were they doing to make you suspect IBD?

That's so sad, I hope your other chondros are safe.
What symptoms did they show? I'm curious because the use of blood tests and throat smears for diagnosis of IBD is news to me. I thought that a tissue biopsy (liver) was the only way to confirm the presence of inclusion bodies without a doubt. Has something changed? wow, im sorry to hear that. im also curious as to where you got the animals? where there any imported carpets or other species housed around them?

I've never heard of IBD confirmed by anything other than a liver biopsy either....

There are tests for IBD that can be done on a living snake, however, they often result in false negatives. Most vets I know do not recommend them. Some vets do
not acknowledge anything but post-mortem histological readings as relevant for an IBD diagnosis.

I sure hope you at least get a second opinion. Were these animals showing signs of IBD? Are they newly aquired and if they are, were they quarantined? If they
have been in your collection for a long time, what could possibly infected them now. I'd hold off before I go destroying those nice looking animals on a
so-so test that might not be accurate.

definitely get a second opinion before putting those guys down. How long have they been ill? I always thought IBD killed pythons VERY quickly.
