Hey Max,
You may not recall one of my older posts, about Khao Yai National Park in Thailand. If you are heading over, I highly recommend checking out the natural wonders, not some touristy animal farm. Khao Yai National Park, Thailand If you want to talk Thailand, shoot me an email. I used to live there and my wife is Thai. I'm sure between the two of us, we can fill your itinerary. The closest thing to a snake farm near Bangkok is a huge Crocodile Farm south of the city. They have thousands of them and use them for the leather industry. Most of them end up as handbags and shoes. The place is a sad tourist trap, and seeing the exploitation of animals over there is really disheartening. By attending those places, you end up contributing to the exploitation. Every once in a while, you see nature strike back, like the occasional crocodile that actually does snap shut on the guy's head. But, most of the time, you see animals in abusive and disgusting environments. Most of the people there have never really been exposed to nature, so they don't know any better. The end result is sad. However, if you want to make a small difference and see something real, natural, and spectacular, then plan your itinerary to include some of the amazing national parks, some not too far outside the city. Thailand has some really spectacular natural wonders, but you have to get outside Bangkok to see them. If you want details, shoot me an email. Andrew |
