To be honest I got into chondros because I was so attracted to the beautiful colors of venomous snakes. Because I am a family man and do not want to risk it I
could not get them. I saw the yellow and red baby chondros and instantly fell in love with them.
Maybe some day I will get myself a small viper but for now these pics will do just fine. Very nice animals. Keith |

Brian, sweet photos of the animals. Joe, cool snakes. However, one thing caught my eye on the atheris...the black spots in it's mouth. I am presuming that
the animal was a wild-caught import (most hispida are). The spots are reminding me of snakes that I have seen photos of in the past with the same deal going
on. The spots look like Trematodes (flukes). It might not be a bad idea to have a vet look at this. Hopefully the animals are in quarantine?

Bryan,
Joe and I both noticed this when the snake was yawning for that picture. He actually had just picked this snake up the same day I took the photos. They do appear to be trematodes, to me at least as well. Joe has washed out his mouth with a chlorohexidine solution and is, I believe, treating it now. The big problem with venomous snakes is that most vets(and all vets in our area) won't see venomous unless anesthetized prior to being brought in. Hopefully it'll make it cause he's a beautiful snake. Will panacur/flagyl kill off trematodes? I haven't researched them that much. I personally do not know how to treat them, but if Joe can get his hands on Doug Mader's book of veterinary medicine, it should have it in there. That's why I steer clear of imports! Hope everything works out for this little guy. Best of luck, Bryan |
