Hey Tazman,
I just bought a Canon 40D this winter and I absolutely love it. I use the canon 100mm macro lens and it produces great images....I definitely recomend going with canon. Relatively easy to use great IQ and I believe a little cheaper than rival cameras from Nikon... |

I have a Canon XTI and use the included lens or a Tamron lens with macro abilities. There are certainly better cameras out there but these are really good and
get the job done. I got mine NEW off ebay with a wide angle lens, Tamron lens, cary bag, two tripods, cleaning ket, a UV filter, and a flourescent filter all
for around $700.00
Having all that said, alot of it boils down to learning the settings on your camera and your own experience as a photographer. If I'm not mistaken, Greg Stephens uses a simple digital camera and takes great pics...better than mine. But his light box and abilities as a photographer make up for the normal camera. Some people like the light box set-up. I've never been able to master that. So I go with outdoor lighting in the shade. Nothing makes the colors come out like natural light. But that can still be tricky as well. Just my .02 (hope it helped a little) |

I currently have a Kodak Easy share Z740. I feel like I may have some talent but I would like to really test that. LOL

Hey Jeff, i had the xti before i bought the 40d and it is a great camera and is the reason i stuck with canon. And as for Greg Stephens pictures.... They are a
million times better than any picture i have ever taken of my animals with my more expensive camera, so it definitely is the user more than the camera that
gets good pictures...Ive always like the pictures Andre Kelly takes and I believe he uses a Nikon?? so he may be able to sway your decision towards Nikon...

i use a Canon XTI and love the hell out of it.
Kodiaks are more for easy use family function photo taking. to shoot alot of photos and have an easy download to email out to the family. just flip around on your setting and see how your photos come out...whats the worst that can happen..its just taking up space just delete them off. on a funny side not. my dad uses a magnafine glass that he holds in front of his kodiak cool pixs to get his close up pictures and they don;t comeout half bad. namaste, joe "No matter how little money and how few possesions you own,

Panasonic DMC-FC50 is great but requires some good skills and training (that I don't have...). Many settings too, so not easy to use.

I use a Canon xti, and I really like but I'm thinking of getting the D40 or the 5D. It's not really about the type of camera you have it's all
about the lens. If you want some really nice pics you should invest into a really good lens. If you go with canon "and you should" and you are able
to get a decent lens go with the L-series len. You can't get any better then that.

I am using the same cam pharmabull mentioned! Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 I think it´s quite good if you don´t need anything professional!
Here is a pic taken today with a macro lens!

I have an older Olympus C 5050. It takes nice pictures although I wish it had flash with the super macro.

I can't say enough about getting a good lens. I have the old original Canon EOS Rebel and rented one of those $1500 white Canon lenses for a vacation. I
started downloading the photos and thought a photographer had stolen my camera and taken pics for me! It makes such a huge difference it's absurd. With the
Canon XSI out now (or whatever the Nikon equivalent is) I would say pick up a used one of the older models on the cheap and drop a bunch on the lens. This was
taken with my EOS Rebel at my local zoo, no tripod or lights or anything, and the amazing rental lens.

David's suggestion of getting a good used camera body and sinking your money into a great lens is good advice. It's the lens that determines the
quality of the photo. Put the same lens on a used, inexpensive D70 or a band new, expensive D300 and you will get the same photo quality from either body.
