Congrats Rico, I also wanted to mention that my Mr.Blue x Carolina male threw some yellow babies this year, last year I got all red neos and the female was
yellow as a baby, this year I used a sorong type female that I assumed was yellow and I got 2 yellow babies out of a clutch of 5 in which 3 survived ,( one
died shortly after hatching and one was dead full term both were red) there were also a number of eggs that went bad during incubation , needless to say I was
quite surprised at the ratio of yellow babies. Sandro

Congratulations Rico, this clutch is awesome.
As biologist, in light of the complexity of chondro's ontogenic color change, and the wide range of colors juvies can show I'm quite confident the theory about yellow and red babies is much more complex. I guess we're far from Mendel's theory as it seems much more than only one gene regulates the expression of colors in chondros. More likely, colors shown by chondros result in the expression and crossregulation of a panel of genes. Anyway, the simple dominant/recessive model is a good basis yet to navigate into this real maze Rico, if you have too much chondros we could go into a very exciting project in molecular biology and study genes expression profile in chondro |
