Repti-racks warning |
Lead | |
|
I just got home from the being at the lake for two days When I arrived home I found the front sliding door on the floor. Just wanted to warn anyone with any
sliding door Repti-rack cages, or anyone at that who uses 3m adhesive to beware that aparently the glue will give. I just secured the tracks for the glass with
an extra screw on both ends, and that is holding solid. Thank goodness the guy had stayed in the snake room, but he did not want to go back to his home. haha.
Has anyone else run into this issue? I dont think Ive seen anything posted about it on here.

Andrew,
I've been using Repti-racks for a year now and have never had any issues with his cages. I don't use his racks nor have I ever purchased an animal from him so I can't speak for that. I feel like his cages are pretty solid. They've always held adequate humidity, kept temps consistent, and nothing has ever come apart. Each cage comes with 20-30 screws so I'm not sure how it could just "fall apart". Mine are rock solid. Joe - maybe you were shorted on materials. As far as the tracks are concerned, never had any issues with that nor the glass. Mine function just as they did the day I bought them. I've always received good service from Steve as well.

Jeff,
I agree with you. I have had my cages put together for around a month so far and I have no complaints about the worksmanship. I did have a few issues with getting al of my stuff on time and unbroken, but Steve was very helpful and was willing to work with me. Did yours come with tracks for sliding glass or do you have swingdoors? Maybe this is just a unique case. Andrew |

i'm interested in hearing more about this...looking into purchasing a set of the 24" HDPE cubes...
I haven't seen the cages in person, so I don't know too much about them. I take it you didn't have locks installed on the sliding glass? Even then, they shouldn't have slid out like that?? I figured the glass panels were in tracks, like the visions? |

The cages are great in my opinion. My tracks were pre-glued to the top and bottom panels of the cage. The installation was easy but a bit time consuming. Thats
because you have so many screws to use. Also because I was too lazy to go dig my drill out of the garage and decided to screw the screws in manually. Needless
to say, I will no longer be "lazy" with my next repti-racks purchase.
Hope that helped, |

Jeff, thank you!
Did you get the rubber stripping to protect against leaks? |

Milmoejoe,
Again, I agree with Jeff. The glass panels are in tracks and like Jeff said they come preglued ready to be applied to cages. The original point behind the post was that the glue has apparently given and in turn failed to hold my glass on the cage (thank God it was the bottom cage or I would have lots of broken glass to clean). My only complaint with repti-racks was the wait. The website stated that on the day I ordered it would take around 3-4 weeks. It actually took (including reshippments of glass) about two months. Other than that I could't be more satisfied. Like Jeff said Steve was very courteous and helpful when I had any problems and was very quick not only to respond to my email, but to fix any issues I had (broken glass). I did not get the rubber seals but I havent had any problems with leaking yet. Andrew |

I'm not sure I get it...
If the glue on the cage failed...then its the manufacturers fault? Also, did you have the locks on the glass? |

I'm gunna have to agree with Jeff Godbold i purchased my retpi-rack 24x24x24 cage over a year ago and i have not had any problems with it at all, my tracks
for the glass also came already installed. i just went to their website since its been a very long time since i've been there and it looks like they have
changed their cages a bit from what i have. but here is a pic of what my'n looks like

I have three 36x24x24 cages so the heavier glass may also come into play. That as well as like you stated Rick, I just got my cages about a month ago and they
are designed differently than yours is. I will get some pictures posted of mine when I get home from work to compare, and hopefully illustrate better what
happened.
Milmoejoe, I am not blaming Repti-racks for the issue. The cages are designed and hold up very well. Its just the adhesive glue that is on the tracks that seems to fault. I guess that this is just a unique situation Im in, although I could swear I read somewhere earlier that someone else had the same problem. I did not get the locks but I am thinking about ordering some. hope that helps Andrew |

With my cage, the tracks came pre-glued to the top and bottom panels. I haven't had any issues with the adhesive used. The assembly is a little
time-consuming, but still easy. There's just a lot of screws...which (IMO) adds to a more solid cage.
I didn't order any locks with mine and haven't had any escapes. I actually just ordered another cage from them today. Hope that helped,

Exactly!Mine have only been together for 2 months and the tracking has come loose. Also all glass and lights were broken in shipping, with no offer of
replacement from Repti-racks.I will not be using them again. My last order was from Animal Plastics.A much better product and service.
