Has anyone ever had a problem with different types of bedding being the cause of a RI? My new Merauke has developed a slight crackling and I feel it might be
due to the cocosoft he is on. Ever since I added bedding to his tub(he was on newspaper), he's been burrowing under it just like my Rainbow boas. Won't
perch anymore, stays grounded, only wants to lay on the bedding! Of course, I've changed him back to newspaper and will get him to the vet today, but I was
wondering if any of you have ever had this problem. He is new, so I don't know if shipping, change of usual habitat, etc. would be the cause or what. He
checked out fine when I first got him, so I'm a bit puzzled. I kinda hated to take it away from him, cuz he actually played in it! Strange...any thoughts?

Are you sure he wasn't burying himself in it due to being stressed out? The stress could have caused an RI, not necessarily the bedding. I've used
coconut bedding for my cornsnakes laying boxes and they bury themselves in the damp coconut husk for weeks before laying...never had a problem. I use moss in
my condro cages and they occasionally like to climb thru it but not bury themselves.

Maybe I should have said "contributed to" instead of cause. That's what I meant. I wondered if anyone has had snakes react to particular types
of bedding. I've just recently started using the cocosoft so I didn't know how safe it was for Chondros. Like I said, Wasabi is a new
purchase(Mother's Day present!) so stress is probably the main cause. He did seem to run through it more so than hide in it, but who's to say? With him
spending alot of time in the bedding, I just thought it might have hastened the problem. Got him to the vet today and started on baytril. Vet said we caught it
early, so I'm hoping for a quick recovery. Thanks.

I noticed one of mine getting a crackling, popping sound while on the coconut mulch as well. when I checked her out she had some of it in her pits. She didnt
have an RI but I feel that possibly if I hadnt taken it out so quickly I could have had a much worse problem.
