Hey everyone, just a question I've been pondering since I first started researching chondros and their yearly fast. What is an acceptable weight loss
percentage for a fasting chondro before you start worrying? I always hear people saying "No need to worry about fasting unless they start to lose a lot
of weight", but what is defined as "a lot"?
I have a male right now that has been fasting for just over 3 months now. I've owned him since November of 2007, so talk about a steep learning curve and a fast "initiation" to the trials of chondro-keeping!
(Needless to say I've purchased several more since buying him.
)
At the very start of his fast, he weighed 524 grams, and his last weigh-in on 4/30 came in at 475 grams, for a loss of about 50 grams (just 10% of his original body weight). He's healthy and active, and I'm not worried over such a small loss of weight. But I want to be informed of what is acceptable so I can continue monitoring him and any other animals that may decide to fast.
Is there a generally accepted rule of thumb or is it mostly arbitrary? Thanks for any info!
