But is it ok to handle chondro when he's grounded? Is he gonna be more feisty when he's grounded?
Is it ok to feed a grounded GTP?
For how long did you guyz' GTPs have ever grounded?
Thanks a lot guyz ^^

Handling grounded GTP |
Lead | |

My biak chondro just recently grounded. I read that sometimes it's normal for some GTPs to be grounded for a while, rite? I don't see any abnormalities
like bubbles coming out from nostrils and so on.
But is it ok to handle chondro when he's grounded? Is he gonna be more feisty when he's grounded? Is it ok to feed a grounded GTP? For how long did you guyz' GTPs have ever grounded? Thanks a lot guyz ^^ |

I had a male that grounded for about 2 months this past winter. No signs of stress or RI and he began perching on his own as soon as he was ready. I
wouldn't worry about it yet. Just keep an eye on it.

So did ya feed yours when he's grounded? or did he/she refuse to eat?
Can you handle him/her during that period? Thanks ^^ |

I tried feeding him but he refused as most males will do so in winter months. I did handle him a few times just for examination. He just chose a new spot on
the ground in front of the cage next to the glass.

My female Biak has a tendency to ground herself every now and then for a week or so and then she goes back to her perch. When it's time to eat she sticks
her head out from under the newspaper and eats normally. This is my experience with grounding.

I haven't really had alot of experience with grounded GTP's but sometimes grounding is stress related. Maybe check your temps and cage conditions i.e.
humdity, size of perches, and even just overall space. When my female felt she was too big for her yearling cage she grounded. I dont know that I would handle
it for fun or any reason other than for inspection, just in case it is stress related. Thats all I can really give you, hope it helps.

I find that my Biak is easier to handle when on the ground, as she was last night when I found her on the floor in a room she wasn't supposed to be in.
Long story involving my short attention span that I won't go into here. My point is, the difficult part of handling her is when she's on her perch and
doesn't want to surrender the security that the perch represents. Off the perch and on the ground she still would prefer to get away, but she's not as
feisty about it.
I agree with Andrew, though: in case the grounding is stress-related, I would limit handling to inspection. |

Pic of my female Biak 5 minutes after eating a rat crawler, looking for another one. Shes been under the news paper for three days now. I just
noticed she starting to shed looks like I'll have to soak her in a few days ,it's been very dry here in Miami the past few weeks . Howie

my Biak has eaten while on the ground. it just took a little longer! so I don't see anything wrong with trying. Most Biaks (not all) will eat ANYTHING and
ANYTIME.

my wamena female has been grounded for about 4 years out of the 5 I've had her, not in one row but she would spend 1 month perched following several months
of being grounded, she has now been perched 2 months in a row ... a record for her
I don't try and handle her but she would feed both grounded and perched ..... hope this helps, good luck with yours Jurgen
