Vision V222s |

I know visions arent the greatest as far as holding heat, but I can control room temperature pretty well and plus I have a source for 3 cheap V222s. I was
gonna sawsall the heat lamp thing off and just patch the hole and put a heat panel there. But my question is this, is the height of the light fixture a concern
when stacking them, or do most standard hoods fit?
And also, any other ways to optimize these visions and make them good for chondro use would be much appreciated.

The height is a concern to a point. I use 5.5 inch heat dome with ceramic heaters in the circular vent and the "slimline" fixture from ESU for light
during the day along the back vent.

I have the light fixtures attached on the back of the 222s, on that back screened part. I don't have any ventilation issues (the cages don't get stale)
and I'm able to stack them w/o anything getting in the way.
I say buy them Kim "Wow, that is a hot snake, I would definitely hit that."

"To an extent" is exactly right. The back vent is slanted down and away from the top of the cage. The main concern is how you get your fixture
to stay on it and not slide off. Because of the slant, most fixtures don't bother stacking at all. I've found myself replacing my vision cages
lately, though I've always loved them for other species, I also have a hard time getting them to hold humidity in the model with the heat lamp pocket. And
you have to make plenty of modifications. If you plan on installing a heat panel, the plastic is so thin, that just about anything you use to screw it in
sticks out of the top. But they are durable as hell, and not all that heavy. I just haven't been able to get the right cage conditions out of them as I
have out of other cages.

So I guess I will cut the heat lamp pocket thing out and patch it with something thick enough to secure the heat panel to, and as far as getting the lamp to
chill on that back vent I think duct tape would do, I mean Im not gonna be looking at the back so aesthetics arent too important. I mean whose gonna see duct
tape when their captivated by a gorgeous Aru with bright whites and deep blues covering its gorgeous green skin. (At least thats what I'm imagining to keep
me motivated to shell out all this moolah to pull these set-ups together
So I think this is my plan of action: I'm going to buy these cages, and work on modifying them as best I can. Then I'll go to Hamburg in Next month to get all the stuff I need. Which would leave me just enough time to get my chondro money together in time for MARS!

There are pros and cons to all manufactured cages it's all about making them work for you… I enjoy my
Vision 222 cages and they heat very well for me but, are all custom built… Photo and going on 4 years old… I have made some changes to the perches since then
but, all else is the same…

Kirk, I typically hate the look of the visions, but you've got a very nice setup there.
Did you do the custom modifications yourself? Or, have them done for you? Thanks!!! |

Thanks, I ordered the cage without any cutouts and heat domes did all the work to them myself also I build the steel base for the cages and controller holders
and had them both powder coated....
Thanks Kirk |

Thanks Kirk that was very helpful!!! You find it necessary to employ both the radiant panel and heat tape?

Mike. I use a Ultratherm Heat Pads on the bottom of the bottom cages only... It heats the floor of that cage and is on a temp controller too, the upper 2 cage
floors are heated by the lights and heat panel of the cage below it... I hope that makes since...

It may not seem like much, but that "model" of the 222 is leaps and bounds better than the original for chondro purposes. It avoids the awful
basking light inset hanging from the ceiling. And having the 2 smaller vents on the back, and the smaller strip at the top has got too help with humidity.
I've never had problems keeping a certain ambient heat inside the cages, but with the thinner walls of the cage, I seem to get more condensation on the
sides than humidity in the cage (in other words no insulation). But with your version, the humidity issue could be solved. Too bad I bought mine several
years before I ever actually owned a chondro. Love the durability of the Visions, mine just don't do as well as the PVC cages I've used since.
