This guy seriously makes me sick to my stomach... "Why should I wait for babies to pip and hatch on their own when I can cut them all open and scoop the
babies right out!" Seriously, I wonder how many he loses after doing this... Not the first video i've seen him do where he does this to a whole clutch
of eggs..

Nice! That looks pretty bad, but the fact of the matter is that Jay has produced a lot of snakes over the years. The guy is probably the third largest producer
of large pythons after Wilbanks and Bob. I personally don't approve of his techniques, but hey, whatever works.

its called greed, the guy sells long term captive (if they are long term) for more then you would pay for a captive breed, they only way to explain it is
greed.

To be fair, unless you have bred retics yourself, you don't really know what's best. I'm sure this looks horrible to us because we deal with snakes
that are extremely sensitive both in eggs and after emerging until they start feeding. I really doubt someone would risk the life of an animal even if you say
it is greed when that animal is worth well over 20k. Those 22 eggs that are in that bucket can bring in about a quarter of a million depending on the Ultra,
Ivory, and Leucistic as they are calling it in the clutch. On top of that, this was a breeding project between him and Bob Clark. This probably the video sent
to Bob unless he was there with him. Bob has been dealing with retics since the late 70s. Jay also has the respect of Kevin from Nerd who is as big a retic
breeder as the rest of them. And why does it have to be automatically about greed? Ignorant statements that assume the worst in someone when you have no
dealings with them. And then to say that the majority of the retics that he sells are imports is another ignorant statement. Check out his website. When was
the last time that you found a golden child retic or a suntiger imported? I don't mean to step on anyone's toes too hard with this reply, but senseless
statements like this is just a stones throw away from saying that all non-native replies should be banned or require a permit. The politicians making those
statements don't know anything about reptiles, and the people saying these statements don't know much about retics.
Stuff like this reminds me of conversations about how no substrate incubation will never work. Statements like why would you do that and if the Barkers don't do it, why should I change. |

I know nothing about retics, so you've got me there. Just seems a bit aggressive to be yanking animals from eggs regardless of what species they are.
Cutting them to enable them to emerge on their own accord is also not natural, yet doesn't "disturb" the animal within the egg. Finger f'ing
the babies simply to determine what morph they are, once again seems aggressive. Is it harming the animals? Given your comments on their potential value and
the breeder's experience with his techniques I would have to assume not. Is applying that technique necessary? Again, regardless of knowing zero about
breeding retics I'd bet my collection that it is not necessary. So, while some of the comments about greed might be off base, I feel a reaction of distaste
is on the money. I try to conduct my breeding efforts with a degree of respect to the animals and I can't see how yanking babies to show them off is
operating as such.

I agree fully with davidnj but also would like to add that just because we keep 100's of snakes and have success in getting them to reproduce (as they and every other animal on this earth was made to do) We should not forget that we are only
allowing them to do what comes natural. It is true that we can do things to better the chances of getting are charges to reproduce ( manipulation of
environment, keeping them healthy and fed, timely introductions etc) and some are better and more experienced than others. But lets not toot our horns to
loudly

I spent the first five years of my reptile life with a retic, so I have been around them and I don't see where it matters what type of snake you have, the guy was cutting them open and jamming a finger in there like he was getting the cream out a donut. Nick you must be a friend or a customer, I've seen his web site and I think he has some incredible animals, but he also has some over priced imports, and as far as the video, you yourself said it there was about half a million dollars in that bucket, but its not a half million dollars till there sold and no going to buy an egg, but if you cut them open, jam your finger in there stress out the animal and hope it eats, them your on your way to that half a million. What would have been wrong with letting them pip on there own and the ones that didn't pip cutting them and letting the animal come out when it's ready, the way the Barkers do and the rest of the well known breeders do. |

It looks like he has his system down. I wouldn't worry about it much if he has the confidence to cut into eggs in the way he does.
Don't try that at home with your chondro eggs folks. Hehe |

I wouldn't try that at home with any egg. I'm sorry, but I don't care what kind of experience you have....to cut open an egg, pull a baby out
before it's even ready to hatch all to show it's color online....is WRONG! Makes me ill.

I have jammed my finger in a lot of things, mostly doors and pastries, but I have never jammed it in an egg.
I personally don't believe in pipping eggs, but I am not going to condemn a person for doing it. If you don't like his method don't buy his snakes. We send a message with our money. I think it is pretty cool that people are videotaping things like that and putting it online. j
