I think the bottom line is that just because you CAN do something does not necessarily mean that you SHOULD. I personally do not think that it is worth the
risk. There are just too many things that can go wrong. Combat, injury, unwanted pregnancy, stress, disease... to mention a few. Just ask the unfortunate
people that have had bad experiences housing seemingly inocuous neonates together. You would not think that they would eat each other but they can and they do.
Just imagine how you would feel if you had to tell your good friends that you bought the snake from that the animal was injured or dead because of a housing
issue.
And to "jacka$$" or whatever your screen name is... I hope you checked with the guys at Chicago Reptile House before you dragged them into this mess with your inflammatory remarks. I know they are pretty laid back guys but doubt they would appreciate it. |

I didn't make ignorant cursory remarks before. Little snake can go Fu*k himself. No one would drag any business into this with the intention of bad
mouthing them. I am simply stating what I was told is acceptable. I never said you should. You candy asses think you are the end-all-be-all of the chondro
world. Quite twisting words to make yourselves sould better. Bunch of Fuc*ing nerds.

Here is my impression of the typical person replying to my comments. You read Greg Maxwell's book. You probably have read some veterinarian book that you
bought from amazon. Maybe you have had one college level biology class. You probably have had chondros for roughly 2-3 years. You probably live at home in
your moms basement. I guarantee you have a hardened sock under your bed because no woman would ever show any interest in you. My advice to you. Keep staring
at your snakes and jerking off. It's the best you will ever do.

I suppose I should respond to the original poster with a non-flip remark as well.
Along with everyone, I'd not house them together. Here's my reasoning (which comes through personal experience) 1.) I currently have a mentally "not right" snake, who I believe lost oxygen to the brain while being constricted by the FEMALE during breeding season. 2.) I have had a MALE violently attack a FEMALE during breeding season, completely unprovoked 3.) I have a FEMALE who attacked and constricted a MALE during breeding season. Impetus? I walked by the cage. Things got heated, emotions ran high. Thankfully I was able to stop her from cutting off the oxygen to his brain and making him basically an invalid. Granted, all of these things are with Male versus Female animals, not male to male. So I guess you could say I have no experience with Male to Male, however I do have experience with Snake to Snake, and under all of these conditions, there should have been sweet sweet love being made, but it ended up nearly disastrous. I'm not a fan of housing chondros together, even when they are opposite sex. The potential for disaster outweighs the reward. 2c

After reading this. I'm wondering if it's PJ with one of his numerous screen names.
Unfortunately, this thread was started by someone who appeared as though they accepted a lack of expereince with chondros...and came here with the concern because they felt they'd get help with the issue. I think this person admited some humility and eagerness to learn by their original post. But it looks like this thread has been "taken over" and become some selfish debate or another "I'm right your wrong" arguement. Sometimes I wonder if we think about our posts before actually posting them. Is this thread actually answering the original question? It seems as though it's gotten a little sidetracked. Unfortunately the first impression sticks, and for this newcomer, it seems as though we've kind of drifted from the educational aspect of the question and turned it into a debate that's being driven by someone that wants their ego made public. My opinion, and thats all it is (from my experience), is that housing males together would be a bad idea. As mentioned earlier, tracking would be difficult, the animals safety and stress would be in danger, and who knows what possible viruses/parasites the new animal may be carrying. Just because they may show no signs of bad health, doesn't mean they don't have them. They may have immunities, that your animal doesn't have. (Speaking in terms of CB vs. FB or WC) My post was not meant to offend, just offering an opinion about the vibe being exppressed by some of the posters here... |

jjrraass wrote: Nerds? Really? Lets recap... Someone asked a question... By asking a question I get the impression either the person has either no idea, is unsure or wants to confirm what
they think is right... Would you agree?
So, by answering a question I would think that the person is wanting my opinion, meaning there might be more then one answer... Folks answered with their opinions saying that they don't think it is a good idea... Which is what they were asked... Would you agree? Then you come along with a different opinion, which is what the individual asking the question wanted... But instead of saying I have done it and it has worked out OK for me you insult folks on the forum by saying that they were pretending to be veterans. In reviewing the posts I see: Andrew Kelly said not to do it because they CAN combat and kill each other. Jurgen stated that males don't produce babies and that buying a second cage prior to buying the snake would have been better, and then finished it off saying he lost an animal that may have been due to two males being put together and to make it even batter id did use "imho" which means in my honest opinion. Kem Heller used the word please, and agreed with Andrew and Jurgen and then said, I don't think Chondros "like" being housed together at all.
and even stated that it woudl suck if they did fight and one died as a result.
Marlboro Man stated that he agreed and stated he woudl end up with injured snakes and suggested he follow some plans to get a tub set up... and he said what Kim said differently by saying, IMO the only time that chondros should housed together is for breeding. which again means in my opinion. Buddy agreed with everyone and they need to be separated and probably reprobed...Where are the people pretending to be seasoned veterans? Sounds like hobbiests giving their opinions to me... Some of them with horror stories to back it up... The point is you need to take it down a notch... I don't care if your God himself and you created the dang Chondro... You don't have all the answers either... The individual was asking for opinions... He was asking for the information these kinds folks gave... If you have a different opinion thats great... I would love to hear about your success with having males together, but spitting in the face of the other people trying to help is not necessary... This is my opinion... My .05 cents...

jjrrass,
You make some pretty strong statements for someone that doesn't even have the courage to post their name. Andrew Kelly has credibility Shiloh has credibility. Bigsnakes (actually a SHE) has credibility. Jurgen has credibility. So does Brian, Aaron, and others. Anonominity is the testoterone of the internet. Now where's my sock?

Wow,
I read the whole thing. jjrrass, kudos for understanding a trench herper that might not be able to run out that day and buy a 200 to 300 dollar cage, 100 dollar heat panel and 100 dollar thermostat. Everything else was a train wreck. I have been keeping all sorts of snakes for 17+ years from colubrids to boids and I know while not impossible to house snakes together it is a real *$#%$. You have stress issues, feeding issues, health issues it can just suck. So while some people tend to appear to have an elitist attitude (I got beat up ever so slightly for gearing my future collection towards locality animals) it's sound advice to the OP. |

all that i can say is WOW
...as a long time herper, but beginner Chondo Fanatic I read this post (all of it) and yes there are valid points made through out this disscussion by great people that have helped me with some questions that I have had. But, none the less the mean spirited person said there piece and could have dropped it (end of disscussion). this none sense and trying to defend yourself lost track of what the origional question was. ( I hope that all went well with the origional posters snakes) I am new to the Chondro seen, and so I read all the posts. It gives me general idea's on and about different subjects, but to do and say the things that were stated in here where so far out of line that you should just keep your crude remarks and hostle take over to yourself. it gives out the wrong impression of the group. my daughter is 7 and like to look at the pictures of the snakes on the screen as i read the posts. And to have to site there and explain how much of a mean and rude person would post statements like that is far beyond belief. all that i have to say to you sire / madam *jjrraass* is that you need to think before you act. we all can get a little heated now and then, but to do as you did was just plain wrong . Namaste to you all that have helped a fellow herper in need. and Good day to you (sire / madam). Joe "No matter how little money and how few possesions you own,
