Hi,

Just a few shots of a slight modification (I know it's uncool to mess with perfection) to a HS combo unit. The back interior is being veneered with cork fabric, applied with doubled-sided film tape.

The unit was just a little too much stark white for me to suffer, and contact paper (esp. the all too common Hunter Green) looks like my ass with a hat on it so I did some experimenting and came up with this below. Nothing I do is ever cheap, easy, reasonable or on time and this project is on par but I dig it so far. Also, everything done is reversible--it can be returned to stock.

EVERYBODY needs a Will Brown original fine art Chondro for their snake room! Here's mine, (#3 BABY!)

I have not been successful in persuading Willy to do images of, say, Mister Blue, LTFM or Soho because he thinks all Chondro folks are cheap MF's that won't appreciate the detail or time involved to make such art. I maintain he is wrong and folks would easily shell out $100 for a limited edition MB or whatever animal image Will creates. Right? RIGHT?!

Love the cork fabric! Habitat systems cages are awesome - but I understand what you mean about the whiteness.

I'm sure there are Chondro people that appreciate fine art!

Love the new cages JB. One question though, what are you going to cover the cork "fabric" with? Doesn't it need a protective cover, or is it mold/bacteria resistent enough to leave well alone? I think my print from Will is #11. And I agree, would love to see more chondro prints...

(By the way, I still have limited editions of both chondro prints available. Geesh, the editions were linited to only 30 and I still have some available?! Chondro folks are cheap MF's.)

Hi Jon. Where are you located? I used to work as a commercial photo'er and now enjoy shooting herps for fun-doing "fine art" closups.

Way ahead of ya there, Ringo. Dyed hot pink, naturally closed-cell, working 10th and Mass in Mid August = Rainforest inside. 0+ Protected Wetland outside. Win/win.

Rob, you are creeping me out with the same frame/matting. We even have the same totally bad ass Austrian level! Get out of my brain as there is no room for even my own thoughts. (Now, go move that fourth pic on the right over two inches to the left, dammit.)

James, the cork is natural and untouched. Google the "magic of Cork" or just "Rico." The answers are the same.

JB, Chondro folks are getting Cheaper by the day, its sad. I'm thinking of doing some large prints for the shows, but who knows. Why buy a nice US produced print when you could buy a flithy import instead

Cool idea... although I'm not too crazy about the striped cork... looks sort of like wall paper, but maybe that's the look you were going for...?

I think it looks great John. I've always been a fan of the black cages just because the white ones were just TOO white. Can you add some pics once you get some the kids in there? I'd like to see the contrast between the background and the animals. I was going to say green, but we all know you don't have any green snakes.

I did some quick searching on the fabric. There are defintely more of choices out there. It's a bit on the pricey side, but like JB said he does everything over budget...

Here's a quick link.

Now that I think about it, I'm kind of suprised that you didn't build your own cages. We just put in a new turtle tank in our house (the kids needed some more room). Before we started, I told the wife that I wanted to rock some Blue Region in the house. I showed her some pics on the site and she was blown away. She agreed with my assessment that you've got 'mad skillz'.

LOL, yeah sort of Silence of the Lambs log cabin-esk!

I can just here JB wispering "the chondro takes the feeder out of the basked and swallows it" as he was walks around his house!

Your cages are looking nice, it is good see that after 7 months you are finally starting to work them. I look forward to seeing the finished product in 2009.
