"Puffy" spots on eggs |
Lead | |
|
This is not something that has me concerned, but rather it has me curious. At around 30 days into incubation I noticed what can best be described as raised
puffy looking areas on the surfaces of several eggs. Has anybody experienced this and/or have any suggestions as to what it is?

Just some calcium deposits. Should not pose any problems.

My eggs that were just laid had similar "bumps" all over them. Kinda reminded me of lumpy oat meal. But I just assumed that's the way the eggs
formed this time around. 22 out of 23 are still looking good, bumps aside.

Eddie-
I'm not referring to the snowflake looking deposits. Rather, I am referring to the mis-shaped raised/puffy areas. On the center most egg in the picture there is one below the black line, and then two above and to the side of that one (the one below the line). The deposits were there from day one, while the raised/puffy splotches appeared at day 30 or so.

Is the word "puffy" being used as a description from viewing or touching? You might just touch it and identify if the locations are "hard"
or "bubbled"...

Still not alarmed. They appear fine. I would be more concerned obviously if mold or fungus starts growing. Eggs are not perfect. Females layer Ca during
development and they are often imperfect. I think we would all love to always see perfectly shelled eggs everytime, but it doesn't always happen. Many
factors I think contribute. Age, diet and frequency of egg production can often effect this. I would not be too worried at this point.
Good luck, Eddie |

Shiloh- I'm using it as a visual description.
Eddie- Thanks for the reassurance. I wasn't too concerned as they have been strong from the get go. It just seemed strange for that to have happened so long into incubation so I was wondering if anybody else has ever experienced this and/or knows what it is from. Thanks guys.
