Hey folks, I had an exciting April Fools day, but this was no joke. My merauke female dropped a beautiful clutch of 20 eggs yesterday. All look great. No slugs. She was bred this year to my Damion Wyatt male (offspring to Mark Robertson's famous Splash x Biak). I am really excited to see the results. I am expecting all yellow babies, but who knows. This is the same female that had the clutch of Cyclops outcross babies last year. Two years in a row and two perfect clutches. Next year, she has a well deserved break coming.

Hatching expected May 20th, if all goes well.

Incubation - these things were very well glued together. With dental floss, I managed to free just one egg, but was getting worried about them cooling off too much, so left the majority intact:

Dam in recovery bucket. I am a firm believer in quick rehydration after laying. She soaked in warm water for about 5 hours before returning to her cage:

What a Great April Fool's Day you had!! I really like the pictorial sequence that led to the eggs...Ok, Ok, the pictures are good too. That pile of eggs is sight to be seen, which I will see tomorrow when I swing by. That Wyatt breeding I am very familar with, that is a sibling to "Snow" in Andrew Kelly's collection that I had at one time which was a product of a nice OS HY bred with a Biak. You Breeding those two could result in some some neat critters. I bet you are pumped...Good for you. Thanks for sharing.

I'm really amazed if I see the clutch sizes of viridis. I'm working with regius and I'm happy with only 8 eggs from a +2kg female.
What's the ratio female weight / clutch weight?
And how much weight do they lose during the whole cycle?

Thanks everyone for the comments. I am really stoked about this clutch.

Sony and Mark, I hope you are right and that I do get some red babies. When I looked back at the history of the Wyatt animal, I was never provided the neonate color. I assumed yellow, but am not really sure. So, if I do get any red babies, I would be really excited.

Joey, I only kept two holdbacks from the Cyclops clutch, a maroon and a yellow. The maroons look like they are turning out really sweet, and the yellows are keeping their change a secret, as none that I am aware of have even begun to change. If you want to talk, shoot me a PM.

Thanks Ken, yeah, the Wyatt animal has some great genetics and I would love to see some neat stuff with the Merauke outcrossing.

Matt, her first clutch last year was twelve eggs, all hatched. This clutch resulted in no slugs either and all look good. I weighed her after laying yesterday and she was just shy of 800 grams. She weighed over 1100 grams during copulation. So, the egg production really sucked the weight off her. I have not weighed the eggs, but may do it soon. Next year, she will get a break.
