Yesterday I found Ice, my blue male, dead. I had set up one of my enclosures with bottom heat. He seems to have enjoyed himself in the overly warm area for
too long and passed on the bottom of the enclosure.
I'm bummed, but life goes on.
For the curious I did take the opportunity to make some observations about the blue look of the scales. Here's a general image to consider. In the
image there are two areas of blue from the animal. The first left section I scratched off the clear scale and a bit of the top layer. It reveals black,
perhaps once iridophores are scraped away(assumption). The next section in the center I continued scraping until pigment was emulsified and lifted. The third
little dark blop to the right is what was lifted from the scale area.
