Well, I found the GTP I've been looking for at a "reasonable" price. Switzer had a nice juvie Cyclops Mtn for $650 and I just had to get it. if you look fast, the pics are still on K-com.
Now to my question - what would be the best type locale in which to pair this little beauty up with in the future for a designer line for some of the darker "melanistic" types? I can't afford the prices that are being asked for established lines, so I want to look at developing my own. I've seen the pics of some of the out-crosses and have to admit they are breathtaking. Of course I would also like to find a mate (as soon as I find out it's sex) and attempt some more "pure" genetics too.
Yes, I understand without locality documentation, it's a crapshoot as to it's real locality. I'll post some pics next week when it arrives.

First congrats on your find. I'm aware of Switzer and the animals they sell. Before buying another, I would treat the animal you just purchased and establish it. I'm pretty sure everything they sell is imported. Thats just me, but you're taking a chance by not doing so.

As for a mate, I feel like the right snake comes along and you know it when you see it. The designer bloodlines command a higher price, but the direction you decide to move in is entirely up to you. Do a little research and talk to some of the folks on this forum that have more expereince under their belts, or try to see some of these types of animals in person and then decide what you like.

I saw that animal yesterday, Nice pick up!! I would have grabed it but I just bought 3 females and my wife now has the divorce lawyer on speed dial.Switzer does get some good animals now and then, mostly local types.I fully agree with Jeff .treat the hell out of it do a couple of fecal exams at the vet and keep it separate from any other animals in your collection for at least 3 months.That animal won`t be ready to breed for another year if its a male and 2 more years if its a female .So you have time to look for a mate and most importantly quarentine the animal.Good luck hope this helps

I really appreciate the information.
I've been keeping various reptiles for over 20 years - the last 10 I have been concentrating on Crotalus, but recently decided that the venomous market is not worth the risk. I have rediscovered my interest in GTP's and am starting to assemble a collection.
I am aware of the wild caught / farmed issues and figured that this animal would need some extra attention. I have Dr Klingenberg's book on understanding reptile parasites and have a supply of Panacur and Generic Albon on hand as well as Metronidazole. Is there a specific regimen suited for GTP's that I should follow?
I'll get the fecals performed and will post the results.
I will try to keep everyone informed of the outcome and share any information that could be helpful.
I really appreciate your time in responding to a my questions.
