hello all I am looking to go digital and was wondering which thermostat to buy the helix or the herpastat and if I would still be able to use ceremic heat
emmiters with either of these systems .I know the helix dbs1000 can handle 1000 watts i have 4 tanks exactly the same just wondering which is the better choice
Thanks Jason

Herpstat - hands down, don't even think twice.
When I bought my first chondro 4 years ago I purchased a Helix because at the time it was the one I had heard about most often. I currently still own that Helix, plus 4 Herpstats. The first herpstat I bought was for my incubator since it reads out in 10ths of a degree (which the Helix does not do). From the minute I plugged it in I realized that I would never buy anything other than herpstats. Benefits over Helix: 1. Reads to 10ths of a degree 2. Has a much much much better probe which plugs into the side of the unit. The helix probe is fixed. 3. Has many many many more built in features (I think like 5 of them) that make it truly customizable for your enclosure. Helix has none of those features. 4. Two times since owning the Helix it has flaked out on me and effectively stopped working. When I contacted customer support I was told it was because there was "noise" in the electrical circuit. While within a day or two the problem went away on its own, I have never experienced an issue with herpstats. Like I said, its a no brainer. If you had each one in your hand, you'd agree.

i just recentley bought a herpstat pro it has 4 seperate probes, built in night drop, high and low temp alarms,it turns off if unit breaks (some stop functioning
and can cook an animal)it can be reprogramed remotely and 4 seperate probes with 4 seperate zones so,if you have 4 seperate cages with 4 ceremic heat emmiters
this would be the best thermostat for you ...

The Helix only handles 500 watts. The probe is easily replaced.
The Herpstat is better though. The Herpstat ND and Pro model also tell you the amount of energy being put out in a % rating. Also as David said , they are really customizable. Not to mention LESS expensive! I use ceramic heat emitters with a Pro version ( 4 probe) and it rocks. I also have several of each version they make, they all kick ass! |

Herpstat!!! The product can't be beat, and neither can the customer service. Dion is the best.

I've had 6 or 7 Helix for about 8 years or more. They have always worked, but I've had my share of problems with them. My last 3 thermostats have been Herpstat NDs and that's all I'll buy from here on out. The built in Night Drop alone is worth tons compared to plugging in a night drop cord and timer.
