I have notice a large variation in Aru type animal. If you look at the Aru islands, the main island is very large. Certainly room for different looking animals. Also, There are some small islands around Aru that could provide some more, minor, isolation. But mo doubt it is easy to see why animals from the north or the island could look greatly diferent than animal from the south.

I think the same issues occur on Biak, and it's surrounding island.

btw, this is why Tim Morris' genetic study on Meruakes/Arus is so interesting. He has an Aru that looks more Merauke than most Meraukes.
