Just wondering what thoughts about scenting with chick down were with regards to the following. I started feeding trials and upon first attempt I tried
unscented pinks and I was getting good tongue flicks and a descent strike response, but no wrapping. As opposed to working the babies over for any extended
period of time with unscented, I quickly scented with chick down and BANG. So for all others I have followed the same course of action and all (but one) strike
and begin eating within 30...

David,
I will echo what has been said here, use what ever works!
The faster they take meals and start looking for meals the faster you regain your sanity!
Remember once they get about 3 to 5 meals getting them off the chick down is pretty easy.

I'm with Carrie - whatever works. As tough as it is to get things to go in your favor, I don't think early scenting is out of line. And weaning them of
scenting was not an issue for me last year. I think most hatchlings after a few feedings will be responding to the act of eating regardless of the prey. Once
you've scented a few times, each successive feeding try without and most won't seem to care

I think its fine to use chick scent early on. Pinkie mice are not their natural prey. I say use whatever works. In my opinion the most important thing is that
they get trained to eat on their own, period. I have never had a problem weaning neonates to unscented mice. Just make sure the chick down is fresh out of the
freezer every time you use it to minimize the possibility of salmonella exposure. Glad to hear they are doing so well for you.
