I don't post here too often, but I thought you folks might like to see some new acrylic cages I just received from glasscages.com. They are constructed of 1/4 in. material and the perimeter is formed from one piece. The dimensions are 15"W X 20"L X 12"H. The rack is a standard Vision V70 Ball Python rack with spacers cut at 12 1/8in. to fit these cages.Tom at glasscages.com built these to my exact dimensions, so they fit the lidless rack system perfectly.
As I've been reading this thread, the "humidifier" idea keeps popping back in my head. I would try that; I have a friend that uses one and swears by it. His room stays just how he wants it. Even though I live in FL, I've been considering getting one.........$30 well spent.

Also, in case you may try to sell the rack later, modifying it too much may cause more harm than good.
Jeff Godbold
JAG Arboreals
jagreptile@yahoo.com

Brian,
Another thing I forgot to mention is how much of the heat cable are you using. If you have to much it will dry your cages out quicker. If your room gets cooler you may have to use alot more to keep up the temps. This could be a possible cause to your problem.I only have one loop on the back side and it keeps the cage 82-85.That cable really gets hot.Make sure that if you do modify the shelves not to cover the heat cable or it will over heat.

On the other hand, this type of rack...

I use the same vision cages with the 15 qt. tubs for my neos and 60 qt for some males and never had a problem. I spray the end once in the morning and they hold the humidity throughout the whole day. My room temp during the day is around 75-80 and it is insulated pretty well. I too have adapted acrylics to them and as long as you dont over due in on the whole opening on the tubs, you are good.
Carlos Echarte
Coneroks1@aol.com

I didn't modify anything. I'm surprised that I seem to be the only one with the humidity issue. There are tons of holes in the rack shelving, if anything, I would modify by covering some of these holes. I've mentioned this on this forum before, and I know someone else was cutting either clear plastic or something else to lay over the holes.

On some other forums, people have experienced the exact same thing.
I have had no humidity problems with any of my Vision racks or cages. The only time I am attentive to cage humidity is when an animal is in a shed cycle. Then I spray the snake and cage in the morning making sure to get the paper on the floor pretty wet. If the snake is unusually active in the evening, shedding is probably eminent and I'll spray again. Otherwise, I normally spray my adult GTPs lightly about three times a week.

Ed

My vision racks hold absolutely no humidity. Those boxes look great, what are you doing to keep in the humidity though.
I purchased the racks directly from Vision. I had them delete the 5 1/8 " spacers that are used for their V 70 tubs. They substituted the black tubular spacer material that I cut to length. I have used this method for several sizes of plastic cages, mostly the "critter carriers" that pet shops sell. I mill the feet off the bottom of the critter carriers so they set flat and slide well and conduct heat from the heating cable. The Vision racks work extremely well. They are...
